Dr. Ruot's problem statement for the 2024 Impact Business Lab

Founded in 2019, Dr. Ruot (Vietnam Health Care Intestinal Tract JSC) is on a mission to eliminate gut-related illnesses in Vietnam through innovative fermented green bean products that promote gut microbiome health.

As Vietnam’s pioneer in resistant starch production, they’ve continuously improved their product, now containing 18% resistant starch typed RS3 – the highest percentage nationwide, certified by the National Institute of Food Safety

The Challenge

Being one of the top leading businesses in prebiotics application in the context of Health Science facing lack of social attention, Dr Ruot finds it takes time to positioning itself as a national-recognised enterprise with advanced technology in prebiotics.

At the moment, Dr. Ruot is looking to introduce a new version of the product, aimed at pregnant women and children between 1 to 12 years old.

Despite their success records, Dr. Ruot struggled to identify key resources and strategies for sustainable growth.

Leading them to the 2024 Impact Business Labs, a collaboration between Impact Link Asia and Fulbright University Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, hoping to tackle the problem statement:

How can Dr. Ruot create a market for their new product line Dr. Ruot Kids Resistant Starch - a product for pregnant women and children aged 1 to 12 years old?"

The Result

Enter the Mission Capacity Assessment (MCA), which provided critical insights. Once Dr. Ruot adapted the MCA toolkit, the project was managed in a better way, especially in terms of model valuation.

The assessment reveals both external and internal challenges. The most important realizations were the lack of mission-driven fundraising and insufficient focus on their TOR (Theory of Change).

By leveraging the MCA toolkit, Dr. Ruot now has a clearer strategic path forward. With better management practices and an enhanced focus on impact, they are well-positioned to continue their mission of improving gut health in Vietnam.
